How to deposit your resume into an online bank

Update your online resume by following the instructions on the resume Web site. If your edits are extensive (let's say you want to rewrite your Summary of Qualifications section), compose your points in MS Word, run your spell checker, and proofread carefully. Then copy and paste it into your online resume. Aside from these reasons, it's a good idea to occasionally review your resume to make sure it's marketing you in the best way possible.

Job-Hunt Hint

For your online "postable" e-resume, you don't need to save the document as Text Only With Line Breaks (as you did for your e-mailable resume) because there is no standard line length for e-forms.

Bonus Check

Some resume bank e-forms will ask for your salary expectations. Before inputting an amount, think carefully about whether you want to disclose that figure online. You may choose to leave that box blank for two reasons:

Remember, you don't have to answer all the questions on an e-form unless the program specifically requires you to do so.

Getting Out While You're Ahead

As soon as you land a job, be sure to delete your resume from the resume banks where you've posted it (check with the site for instructions). You don't want your resume in circulation once you're happily employed (unless you do contract work, in which case you may always want to have your resume on the market). After all, you don't want your new boss to find your resume floating around in the job market and think that you're already looking elsewhere.
