Functional Hybrid Resume

There aren’t any limits to how creative you can be with your resume format. Sure, there are guidelines of what to do and what not to do, but it’s your marketing piece, and you can be innovative with it!

So far, you’ve learned about four resume formats: functional, functional, achievement, and functional hybrid. Hang on to your marketing hats a little longer–you’re about to discover one more: the functional hybrid. In this chapter, you’ll see how to design a functional hybrid resume and figure out whether it’s the right format for you.

You might be the ideal candidate for using the functional resume (based on what you learned in, “Get Functional”), but you may be worried that the functional resume won’t be well received by a conservative employer. In that case, you could start with the basic functional layout and add subheadings composed of the name of the company where your achievements took place. This functional hybrid has enough of the characteristics of the traditional functional resume to please your conservative potential employer.
