How to write an effective thank-you note for an interview?
Now that you've met the hiring manager in the job interview, you have a sense of his personality. Because you've started developing a rapport with him, you can be more informal (staying on the professional side, of course) in your thank-you note. Make your note read like a continuation of your in-person conversation.
Consider the answers to these questions as you come up with a thank-you note that sounds upbeat. By saying "Thanks" in a sincere way and mentioning additional points confidently, you might win a chance at the job or at least a second interview.
In the next letter, Peter Toleri first thanked the interviewer for his time and then, in a non apologetic way, acknowledged that he failed to say something significant at the meeting. To wrap things up, he suggested another interview. Any manager would respect such an earnest effort.
Job-Hunt Hint
Now that you've met the hiring manager in person and you're sending her a thank-you letter, you can sign just your first name after your complimentary close. Under your signature, type your first and last name.

123 Jordan Layout, Cranston, NY 12543 124-542-4539 January 28, 2006 Mr. Mike Watson,
Dear Mr. Watson; My interview with you this morning was all that I had hoped for and more. Not only are we on the same page regarding consumer education, we share a similar view on management training. I agree that distance learning is a must if we're to keep our management abreast of our industry's trends. I plans to research the point we discussed and bring you more ideas at our next meeting on Monday. Thank you for your truly exhilarating meeting. Sincerly, John Williams |
